My First Blog Post

Hello, my name is Mike Barker and I am the owner of AA+ Lawn & Landscape. This is my first blog post...ever!! I do not entirely enjoy writing but I love creating useful content and helping others learn.

A little about myself I started AA+ 11 years ago when I decided I preferred to be my own boss. I have two beautiful children Rylee and Travis and am happily married to my high school sweetheart Samantha.

My back story: I grew up an only child in Haslett, MI. I had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age.  I started my first business walking dogs at the age of 12 which taught me work ethic and business skills. This is still my current back up plan if the green industry turns on me. In 2008, I found out I was going to be a father. My daughter Rylee was born when I was in high school and she is the greatest gift I could ask for. What started as an idea to just "make ends meet" turned into a passion and a career that I absolutely love. I grew slowly, mainly taking on lawn mowing jobs which came with pruning, clean ups, mulch, etc. After two years, I had built a decent company. I was taking care of 30 or so accounts year round. In 2010, I ventured into landscape.

My mom was a gardener and I was blessed to gain some knowledge thanks to her. I found my passion with landscape. It really allows my creative juices flow. I started with small tear out and replants, which has graduated into major commercial renovation projects.

Fast forward to 2018, I accepted my first sizable hardscape project. I immediately fell in love with the whole process. Taking a space and completely transforming it into a beautiful, functional space for someone to enjoy for years to come keeps me excited about the work I do. I have been very fortunate to work on some amazing projects and can not wait to see what the future has in store.

My goal is to create a landscape blog post once a month or more. These posts can be about landscape, hardscape, maintaining your property, plant material, etc. I hope you can get some takeaways and landscaping ideas from each blog post, so you can apply it to your own situation or help a friend. Either way I hope you enjoy the content I create.
